Welcome to the 7th Opticwise MC/WG Meeting. This meeting will be organized in the beautiful Madeira Island in Portugal. It will be co-located with the 3rd International Workshop on Optical Wireless. Both events are held in parallel with Networks 2014 conference, for which your participation is also welcome. The foreseen program of these events is:

IWOW 2014 - a full day workshop joining together international cutting edged research results on optical wireless communications and related fields (more information can be found on the call for papers available online). The workshop will be held during September 17th, 2014, at Funchal Vidamar Resorts.

7th OPTICWISE MC/WG Meeting – a two days meeting joining action delegates. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss research results aligned with the action working group’s objectives (more information at http://opticwise.uop.gr/), to foster international cooperation venues, and to prepare future events. The meeting will be opened to participation to action delegates, IWOW 2014 participants and invited speakers. The meeting will be opened to participation to action delegates, IWOW 2014 participants and invited speakers. The meeting will be held during September 18-19th, 2014, at Funchal Vidamar Resorts.

IWOW 2014

The ever increasing demand for higher bandwidths motivated by current portable equipment is motivating new communication paradigms. The passage from 3G to 4G and current trends towards 5G, are advancing new technologies able to mitigate the spectrum crunch problem. It has been recognized that advanced network management and cognitive radio technologies may promote a better usage of the available bandwidth. However, with the tendency of the cells to become confined other technologies seem to offer better interconnectivity. This is the case of Optical Wireless Communication technologies, which are able to address efficiently high user density scenarios and offering wide spectrum availability. In particular Free Space Optical and Visible Light Communications systems are seen as promising technologies to integrate these future trends.

The International Workshop on Optical Wireless communication emerged as a specialized forum under the frame work of the IC1101 COST action (OPTICWISE). This year will be the third realization of this special event. Paper contributions on OWC are requested. The main topical lines of the event are:

Registration

Participant registration

Two types of participants are expected for this event, action delegates and external authors.
Action delegates are eligible for expenses reimbursement following standard COST rules. Registration for action delegates cover their participation on the action meetings and grant free access to IWOW2014.
External authors follow different registration rules and have to comply with a conference registration fee. Registration for external authors grants their access to the OPTICWISE meetings and Networks 2014.
This year, registration process including hotel, social events and conference fees will be managed by Abreu Viagens through the following link. Hotel special rates have been negotiated in advance and participants are kindly requested to choose Hotel Vidamar Resort.
The following table summarizes the cost involved with registration. Social events are optional. Two social events will be organized in parallel with the Networks 2014 Conference. These will consist of two thematic dinners on 17/09 and 18/09. Social dinner expenses cover transportation to the event site. External Authors registration fee includes Networks 2014 participation. COST delegates may optionally submit contributions to Networks 2014. This will incur on additional fee due for participation.
